De Madelief is a school for Dutch Language and Culture. The school is a community based heritage language school (CBHL) and provides a programme for children who have Dutch and Flemish speaking parents who live in the wider Dublin area.

Our school is formally recognised by the Dutch and Belgian ministeries of Edcuation and our teaching programme is supported by the foundation for Dutch Education Abroad (Stichting NOB).

Since the start of our activities in 2015, we have been teaching children aged 4-14, using the same teaching materials and methods as would be used in the Netherlands and Belgium.

Since September 2022 we have started teaching at secondary level and our first 1st year class is well underway.

Our lessons take place on Saturdays, as our students are going to Irish schools during the week.

On average, our primary school has around 50 students per year and we’re making sure that our programme of education is carried out in a pleasant way, so that the “extra day at school” has the right balance between learning and fun activities.

Education about the Dutch and Belgian culture takes a very important place at the school. We participate in the special week for Dutch Children’s Books, we celebrate St. Nicholas and other National holidays and we organise a school trip to the zoo.
